Abstract

513,449. Automatic frequency control systems. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. April 11, 1938, No. 11028. Convention date, April 10, 1937. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] In order that the control action of a frequency control valve of the thermionic reactance type shall be substantially constant over the tuning range, the valve is connected across the controlled circuit through a series reactance of opposite sign to that simulated by the valve. The control valve 13 the gain of which is varied in dependence on departure of the I.F. impressed on amplifier 5 from its correct value simulates an inductive reactance across the tank circuit 4, 6 of the local oscillator 4. In series with this simulated inductance a condenser C3 is provided of such value that the series circuit is resonant at a frequency below the frequency range of the oscillator circuit 4, 6. The variation in effectiveness of control over the entire range is thus considerably reduced. Specifications 471,738, [Group XL], and 489.094 are referred to.
