Abstract

513,325. Lubricating compositions. 'MORGAN CRUCIBLE CO., Ltd., and COATES, A. E. April 2, 1938, No. 10143. [Class 91] An oilless composition resistant to liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons, for lubricating taps, or other moving parts of pipe systems, consists of a substantially anhydrous mixture of from 30 to 80 per cent. of an alkali or alkaline earth metal salt of a saturated or unsaturated fatty acid having from 12 to 20 carbon atoms in the molecule, or of two or more of such salts, with 70 to 20 per cent. of a polyhydric alcohol or two or more cf such alcohols. The composition may consist of a mixture of alkali or alkaline earth stearates, oleates or linoleates and glycerol or a member of the Cn H2n (OH)2 series. Up to 50 per cent. of grapbite and up to 10 per cent. of a protein may be added.
