[Class 37] [Also in Groups XL and XI] A combined radio receiving set and pedestal lamp comprises a base unit. a shade unit and a stanchion, each housing parts of the receiver, the tuning condensers being located in the base and operated by a rotatable member extending through a slot in the side-wall of the base. The loudspeaker 104 (Fig. 1) and power supply apparatus are housed in the shade 33 together with the rectifier valve 51 and other components generating substantial heat such as the output valve. The lamps 106 are so arranged that the components housed in the shade cast no shadows thereon. The receiver is of the superheterodyne type, the circuit of which is given in Fig. 10 (not shown) ; the radio-frequency and frequencychanging stages are housed in screened compartments in the base 31, while the I.P. and second detector stages are mounted in the space 45 of the hollow stanchion 32. The stanchion comprises two eccentrically mounted tubes 93, 92 the latter being longitudinally divided. The LF. apparatus is arranged inside the tube 93, the wiring between base and shade passing between the two tubes. The three variable condensers 53 are each divided into two units and are housed in screened compartments in the base 31. They are gang-controlled by a central gear 64 engaging gears on each condenser rotor as shown in Figs. 6 and 7. The member 62 adjusts all the condensers by sliding in a slot in the side-wall of the base, its travel being limited by stops 71. The base also includes a combined on-off switch and volume control 88. In a further embodiment (Figs. 11-15, not shown) only the variable condensers are housed in the base, the stanchion being enlarged to accommodate the stage units one above the other in separate compartments. In a further modification of the base unit, Fig. 16 (not shown) the condenser adjustment member is an annulus or ring mounted between the upper and lower sections of the base.
