[Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A wireless receiver mounted in a table lamp comprises a base 21 on which are mounted the main tuning condensers 19, a central pedestal in which are mounted the principal remaining components of the set, and a lamp and shade section 17 in which are mounted a loudspeaker 20, the main supply transformer 67, audio-frequency and rectifier valves 68 and lamps 64. The pedestal includes a chassis, Fig. 5, formed of end plates 29, 39 connected together by a curved stanchion plate 32 carrying valves 37, 38 and other components, the stanchion 32 and transverse plates 40, 42 serving for screening. The lower plate 29 is fixed by screw 36 to an upward extension of a tube 24 secured to the base 21, while to the top plate 39 is secured a plate 45 having sockets to which are connected all wires it is desired to connect to the loudspeaker section. The chassis is closely enveloped by a tube 28 which in turn is enclosed by an ornamental tube 30. The loudspeaker section is supported on a tube 55 connected to a plate 52 which is detachably mounted on the end of tube 28 by a screwed clamping ring 57. The plate 52 carries a plate 50 having conducting prongs 49 for engaging the sockets in plate 45 for making the necessary connections. A rotatable ring 76 actuates through gearing 77, 78, 79 a combined off and on switch and volume control 74 while a second ring 85 actuates the tuning condensers 19 through gearing which is designed to reduce backlash. A wavelength indicator 96 is visible through a window 97. The base units may be inspected by raising a cover 22, while the main chassis is revealed by removing the loudspeaker section and sliding up tubes 30, 28.
