512,125. Coating with metals ; bearing- surfaces. PETRIE & McNAUGHT, Ltd., and SHAW, H. Feb. 3, 1939, No. 3696. [Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] A bearing of iron, steel, or copper alloy is provided with a surface which will readily form a polished amorphous or Beilby layer by heating it at 600-800‹F. in a closed container in contact with zinc and/or cadmium in the form of dust for a time sufficient to produce on the surface a layer of zinc and/or cadmium of a thickness of not more than 1/1000 of an inch united to the base by a layer of an alloy of the zinc &c. and the metal of the base. The treatment may comprise heating the bearing in zinc dust for 1 hour at 720‹F.
