512,115. Extruding. SCHLOEMANN AKT.- GES. Jan. 10, 1939, No. 820. Convention date, Jan. 10, 1938. [Class 83 (iv] In a press for extruding metal tubes comprising a hollow cylindrical press plunger head 3, a mandrel 6 held in a mandrel holder and mounted within and actuated independently of 'the head and a face plate 8 abutting against the head and adapted to act on the fillet 9, the mandrel holder is provided with an extension 11 which during the pressing operation projects from the plunger head by an amount equal to the thickness of the face plate. This constructions prevents the passage of metal between the mandrel and face plate and furthermore permits the same face plate to be employed with different sizes of mandrel. The press may be used for extruding rods by removing the mandrel and replacing the extension 11 by a similar member having a solid front face.
