Abstract

Squirting.-In the process of forming tubes or rods by squirting billets in hydraulic presses, the die is held in an auxiliary hydraulic piston arranged concentrically, the receptacle for the billet is operated independently from the main press, and the dead-bead is cut off by an independently-actuated transverse cutter. The billet n is placed in the receptacle i, which is then advanced by the auxiliary plungers l towards the main plunger f until the end of the billet abuts against the pressing-face u ; the die-carrying hollow plunger is then advanced until the die q fits into the conical hole in the receptacle, and the main press advancing on a guide-rod b squirts the metal through the die. The plunger p with the die q is then drawn back, and the cutter t actuated from an hydraulic press r to cut off the dead-bead ; the finished work is withdrawn through the hollow die piston p.
