Abstract
511,684. Coke ovens. KOPPERS CO. Jan. 19, 1938, No. 1850. Convention date, Jan. 19, 1937. [Class 51 (ii)] In a, gas distribution system for a regenerative coke oven through which decarbonizing air is supplied during the " off " periods for the gas, the pipe connections to the individual heating- flues are arranged to tap the horizontal distributor header 24 at different levels. By this arrangement stratification of gas and air at the change-over periods is avoided, and the risk of explosions resulting therefrom is reduced. In one construction alternate pipes are taken off from the top of the header, and the remainder from the bottom, while in that shown in which all the connections 27 are taken off from the bottom, alternate pipes have inlet extensions 35, preferably with adjustable sleeves. If desired these extensions may be omitted from the pipes for about the first third of the length of the header 24 between the riser 23 from the gas main and the ends of the header.
