Coke ovens.-In the fuel-gas distribution system of a coke oven a gas-flow equalizing channel is fitted below and in proximity to the burners, and is fed with gas by a number of vertical ducts extending downwards to a relatively cool region of the oven. As shown in connection with an oven having cross-over flues 26 connecting adjacent heating-walls as described in Specification 171,117, rich gas from a main M is supplied through pipes 29 and vertical passages 40 situated between the regenerators to horizontal equalizing conduits 35, 36 at the base of the heating-walls. Each passage 40 preferably opens into the equalizing conduit at a point between two ducts 31 leading to the heating flues. The conduits 35, 36 extend outwards through the walls of the structure, and each may be fitted with a nozzle 45 for the supply of decarbonizing air. Regulating-orifices 41 accessible from the tunnels 15 beneath the oven are fitted at the base of the passages 40.
