Abstract
510,836. Tanning apparatus. KANNEL, C. Oct. 14, 1938, No. 29857. [Class 15 (i)] [Also in Group VIII] Apparatus for tanning hides &c. in which there is a reciprocal movement between the hides and the tanning liquor is so arranged that an increased pressure of the liquor on the hides is obtained by a "pocketing" of the liquor in or between the hides at the returns of the to and fro movement. This is effected by supporting the hides on frames arranged in V-formation, the hides being supported with their centre lines at the apex of the V. In the constructions shown in Fig. 1 an open rectangular frame 3 is moved from side to side in a vat 1 by means of the mechanism 5-11 and carries a series of frames 16 mounted in eyes 14 in an inner removable frame supported in the outer frame by means of lateral arms 15. The hides are tacked to the frames 16 and tension at their centre lines by bars mounted in the eyes 14. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6 the hide-carrying frame is swung about an axis 24. In the construction of Fig. 7 frames 28, carrying. the hide-supporting frames 32 are reciprocated vertically in vats by means of a rocking bar 36 and mechanism 39-41. The hides are secured at their centre lines by bars 29 detachably locked to the frames 28.
