[Class 5 (i)] A potato-chipping apparatus comprises a presser plate 28 supported by bars 25 pivoted to an operating lever 21 and to links 29, the lever 21 and links 29 being pivoted to supports 18, 31 in a frame 1 and being so arranged that during the operative movements of the plate 28, a line at right angles to the plate from a central part thereof remains substantially coincident with a line at right angles to the cutting grid 6 from a central part thereof, the parts supporting the presser plate forming an articulated quadrilateral structure, and the employment of sliders or guideways being avoided. The grid 6 is removably mounted and is of the usual type except that two of the usual knives, 10a, 11<a>, Fig. 3, are omitted, to avoid waste.
