510,448. Pedestal, ceiling, and wall lamps. WITT, G., DE. Feb. 1, 1938, No. 3122. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] In pedestal, ceiling and wall lamps of the kind in which the light source is vertically adjustable in relation to a reflector so that the area of illumination may be varied, the source and its mounting are flexibly connected with a counterweight in the form of a ring, tassel, or like handpull device. Fig. 1 shows a reading-lamp comprising a reflector b supported above a bowl or vase q on the neck of which is seated the rounded rim r of a tapered tube e, the electric bulb d being carried by a plunger c which is slidable in the tube e and is connected to a ring counterweight n by a ball chain u passing over the rim r. In the overhead lamp shown in Fig. 2, a double conical reflecter m, m<1> is employed, the bulb d being adjustably supported, so as to provide varying degrees of downward and upward illumination, by a cord k passing over pulleys and carrying a weighted tassel n. Fig. 3 shows a similar construction applied to a wall lamp, a half reflector m, m' being secured to a wall bracket s.
