629,731. Electric lighting fittings. WILLIAMS, H. M. Oct. 28, 1947, No. 28706. [Class 75(ii)] An electric lighting fitting 1 is arranged for use with an electric incandescent lamp 2 fitted in a lampholder 3 at different depths h below a ceiling 4 by means of a scale 5 marked on the interior of the fitting, the material of the fitting being easily cut to the required size as determined by the scale, and said fitting 1 being in the form of a truncated cone or a surface of revolution having convex or concave sides, the base bearing against the ceiling and the circle of truncation resting on or closely adjoining the glass envelope of the lamp 2. The scale 5, which may be formed at the base or at the truncated end of the fitting, is in terms of the depth h representing the distance of the bayonet pins 6 of the lamp cap 7 from the ceiling 4 when the lamp is in the lampholder 3. The material of the fitting may be slightly deformable to allow for variations in the curvature of the lamp envelope and may be anodised coloured aluminium sheet of 20-23 gauge, or thermo-setting plastic. A reflector or diffusing screen 8 may be hung from the fitting by means of hook-ended wires or strips 9 engaging holes or slots 10. In an alternative arrangement the fitting may have short leaf springs riveted at its truncated end and arranged to bear on the lamp envelope. Fig. 4 shows an arrangement wherein a flanged annular ring 16 resting on the lamp envelope 2 supports and locates the fitting 1a at its truncated end. In this case the scale 5 is in terms of the depth H of the ring from the ceiling 4, when in position on the lamp.
