Abstract
597,175. Lamp globes. BOISSEVAIN, W., and MERCHANT ADVENTURERS OF LONDON, Ltd., COMPANY OF. May 31, 1945, No. 13656. [Class 75 (ii)] A translucent or part-translucent lamp globe 10 is provided with an internal translucent sheath 16 hermetically joined to the globe 10 to render the interior of the globe outside the sheath air-tight and open at one end to receive the lamp or lamps. The sheath 16 may be fused at its lower end to an aperture 13, Fig. 1, in the globe and its upper end 17 may be inwardly coned, an asbestos gasket 19 and cement 20 in the trough between the sheath and the globe forming a seal. The aperture 13 may be closed by a detachable grid of metal or other material, or the sheath 16 may have a closedend projecting through the aperture 13. The upper end of the sheath may project above the globe and be screw-threaded to engage a supporting gallery. The globe may be made. of translucent plastic and may in part be opaque, the portion nearest the lamp being frosted to assist in diffusing the light and the inside of the globe may be silvered inside the top 15 to provide a reflector. The globe may be of circular or polygonal shape in plan, or of elongated shape to accommodate two or more lamps. Specification 7311/09, [Class 75 (ii)], is referred to. According to the Provisional Specification the upper end of the sheath may be provided with internal notches to engage with a spring catch on the gallery and prevent relative rotation.
