Abstract
510,088. Pumps operated by wind motors. ARNOT, G. RAE-. Jan. 26, 1938, No. 2486. [Class 102 (i)] In a wind-mill driven pump discharging on both strokes, the downward stroke is effected by a weight 2, Fig. 1, or by a spring. The pump is of the differential type, comprising a rod 4 of large diameter carrying a bucket 6. Discharge takes place through a valve 12 to a pipe 15 connected to an air vessel 14. The suction pipe 1 is connected to the casing 11, 13, in which the barrel 11 is suspended. In a modification, Fig. 2, the bucket comprises tow heads 16a, 16b of different diameters. The pump may deliver from the upper chamber 8 through a pipe 15, the intermediate chamber being connected to atmosphere through a pipe 19. Alternatively the intermediate space may form the pumping chamber discharging. through the pipe 19. In the latter case the through passage 17 and check valve 18 are dispensed with and the head 16a is provided with a cup-leather which acts as a valve.
