Abstract

116,117. Cairns, H. S. April 26, 1917. Assembling parts; double - acting piston pumps; pumps for liquids containing solids in suspension; suction and delivery reservoirs; valves and valve seats, arrangement of. - A pump suitable for use in petroleum wells comprises a casing composed of three parts A<1>, A<2>, A<3>, the upper and. lower parts being contracted and screwed to the valve blocks B, C respectively, while the middle section is screwed to both blocks. The suction pipe D screws into the suction valve block C and is closed at the lower end by a plug. The pump barrel E screws into the delivery valve block B, passes loosely through the block C into the pipe D, and has an annular plug K at the bottom. The plunger rod M passes through a cup-gland N in the top of the barrel. During the up-stroke of the cup-plunger R, liquid is drawn in through holes L and passes through the valve 0 into the tube D and through holes G in the barrel. During the down-stroke, the liquid is forced through the pipe D and valves P. Sand &c. collects in the bottom of the suction pipe.
