Abstract
25,143. Duquenne, C. Dec. 12, 1911, [Convention date]. Momentum apparatus.- Means for raising liquids, or pumping fluids of any kind, by the momentum of a column of liquid comprise a tube A, down which water is forced by means of a pump or natural fall, which is connected through an airchamber F, to across tube connecting two tubes B', B2. These tubes contain valves D<1>, D<2> and are connected at the lower end to a suction pipe E and at their upper end to an air-chamber C in which is mouuted the rising mam B. The cross-tube contains an oscillating valve a. Water entering the chamber A<1> divides on either side, and any inequality of movement causes the valve a to move over to one side or the other, for instance, the left side as shown. The water in the column B<2> has a momentum upwards which causes the valve D<2> to open, drawing water after it and causing it to flow up the rising main B. After a short time, this water ceases to flow upwards and commences to flow in the opposite direction ; this causes the valve a to change over its position, repeating the cycle in the other pipe B'. When used for a gas, the apparatus may be arranged horizontally.
