Abstract
508,799. Alternating-current motors. ELMS, R. Jan. 5, 1938, No. 302. [Class 35] The primary member of a synchronous motor comprises two annular channel section members with aligned teeth on their inner peripheries given the same simultaneous polarity by windings disposed in the channel members, teeth of opposite polarity on one or more other annular members projecting into the gaps between the aligned teeth. In the form shown, a six pole permanently magnetized rotor 37 with bifurcated poles and brass side plates 36 co-operates with the aligned polepieces 14, 15 on channel members 1, 2 between which are held annular laminµ 16, 17, 23, the inner peripheries of which have teeth extending between the teeth 14, 15. The windings 6, 7 are so connected that the teeth 14, 15 have the same polarity. The motor may be rendered self-starting by small pieces of soft iron on the rotor between the poles, and a device may be provided to ensure starting in the required direction.
