508,090. Coating photographic films. FRANCOLOR. Sept. 17, 1937, No. 25266. Void. Convention date, Sept. 17, 1936. [Class 98 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] Apparatus for coating strips with solution, particularly for applying sensitive emulsions, varnishes or coloured solutions to motion picture film, comprises a supporting member such as a pulley 2 rotating freely on an axle 3 and over which a film 1 passes, a container 4 open at its upper part and having longitudinal walls 4a shaped to correspond to the curvature of the rim 2a of the pulley 2, means such as blade springs 5 to press the walls of the tank against the film to form a liquid seal and means 11, of known kind, to maintain the level 7 of the liquid constant so that the film merely licks the free surface. After receiving the coating the film 1 is cooled in a chamber 13 wherein it is guided by a support 14 of arcuate shape or a series of rollers disposed along an are of a circle, to prevent deformation of the film or its coating and is finally dried in a drier 15.
