Abstract

507,867. Cutting fruit and vegetables. LORD, W. R. March 14, 1938, No. 7898. [Class 5 (i)] [Also in Group VI] A bean-stringer and cutter, usable also for cutting and slicing fruit and vegetables, comprises a plate 7 having apertures 13, 14, the outer edges 15, 16 of which serve as gauges for determining the depth of the cut, a clamping- plate 9 having gaps 20, 21 to correspond with the apertures 13, 14, and a blade 10 (as shown, a safety razor blade) interposed and held between the plates 7, 9 which are clamped together by a bolt 11 passing through the holes 24 .. 26. The plate 7 is provided with a stiffening rib 18 and a flange 19 which bears upon the corresponding edge of the plate 9 and the rear edge of the blade 10. The plate 7 is provided with a tang 8 which enters the handle through a slot in the ferrule, and the plate 9, which is provided with a stiffening-rib 22, has a projection 23 which passes, also, into the ferrule. The gauge 16 is more remote from the cutting-edge than the gauge 15.
