Abstract
382,832. Slicing timber. FIDDES, J., Torry Sawmills, Aberdeen. Feb. 16, 1932, Nos. 4560 and 8174. [Class 145 (i).] Slices are cut from blocks of timber 53 placed in a holder 52 by blades 51 each set in a slot 48, several such slots being formed in a flat disc 30 rotated about a vertical axis by a motor 39 through gearing 40, 37, 36. Several holders 52 are arranged on a disc 31 which may be rotated oppositely to the disc 30 or may be held stationary. Each holder is provided with a gripper, such as a hook 54, actuated by cams 60, 61 on the disc 30 so as to grip the block which is being sliced ; a spring-pressed plate (not shown) may be used instead of the hook. The size and arrangement of the holders may be varied. The wood is preferably steamed before cutting.
