[Class 146 (iii)] A pen and ink stand of the bird-fountain type comprises an integrally-formed container or housing, base structure, and pen guide and support, the container including a downwardly extending portion constituting an inkwell open to the pen guide, an upwardly projecting portion for receiving and surrounding an inverted ink bottle, and an intermediate portion adapted to support the bottle. The container 1 may have transparent or decorative panels therein, or the container, base 2, and pen guide 10 may be made of transparent material. A cap 9 closes the upper end of the container 1. The inverted ink bottle 6 inside the container is supported by an annular shoulder 5 on the container. An air-escape channel 27 is provided between the container 1 and the pen guide 10. This channel ensures equalization of pressure in the inkwell 8 and pen guide 10 since air can leak through the joint between the ink bottle 6 and shoulder 5. A penholder 17 to be used with the pen and ink stand has near its lower end a chamfered shoulder 19 around which a rubber disc 26 may be fitted to act as a seal for the pen guide 10, and the extreme lower end of the holder is provided with a rounded shoulder 21 which engages the interior of the guide 10. The tip of the pen nib, when the holder 17 is placed fully within the guide 10, engages the end of the wall 15 which separates the well 8 from the guide. A tube 28 for ensuring the continuous feeding of ink from the bottle 6 to the inkwell 8 has two lower branch portions; one 29<1> extending into the inkwell, and the other 29 extending upwardly into the ink bottle.
