Abstract

[Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Groups XXI and XXVI] Speed.-Apparatus for maintaining a desired speed relation between two shafts comprises a control shaft a driven by one of the shafts, the other shaft b being driven by an electric motor M, changes in speed of the control shaft a acting through a differential gear c, d, e, not only to vary the speed of the motor M in a sense to cause the desired speed 'relation to be resumed, but, at the same time, to control a further device the action of which depends on the momentary speed of the control shaft. The planetary member d of the differential gear may be arranged to shift the brush-carrier h of the electric motor M and to adjust, through the planetary member u of a second differential gear, the cam r<1> which controls the synchronized fire of a gun p between the blades of an aircraft propeller X. Further, the invention may be applied to adjusting the angle betweon the gun and sight in anti-aircraft gun fire, which angle depends on the momentary speed of the target across the line of fire of the gun.
