506,140. Elastic fluid turbines. BOEK, R. Sept. 29, 1938, No. 28350. Convention date, Oct. 7, 1937. [Class 110 (iii)] A marine turbine has steam flowing in series through separate casings 3, 6, as shown, for cruising purposes, but in parallel through the casings 3, 6 (including a stage 8 in the latter) when full speed is required. In the latter case, a valve. is raised so that steam passing along the pipe 4, is led directly to the exhaust port 7. The port 7 may lead to intermediate or low pressure turbines. The stage 8 may be included when the steam is passing in series from the casing 3 to the casing 6. During the full-speed condition, the supply of steam to 6 is much larger than that to the casing 3.
