Abstract

505,895. Cylinders. EDWARDS, J. L., and PEARSON, J. D. Oct. 16, 1937, No. 28240. [Class 7 (ii)] A combustion chamber, having inlet and exhaust valves C<1>, D<1>, is restricted to parts E, F, which arc circular in plan, and a throat portion G having all area not less than 0À15 of the cylinder bore; the sparking plug J is located so that the distance of the iguition point from the inlet valve C<1> is not more than 0À3 of the cylinder bore. The stem of the inlet valve is inclined or parallel to the cylinder axis, and its travel may be arranged to take place entirely within the combustion chamber, which may have a domed or flat roof. The piston face may have a projection K. Relative dimensions of the size and location of the ports E, F are given. The Provisional Specification describes the duplication of the valves C<1>, D<1>.
