[Class 7 (ii).] A combustion chamber has a continuously curved wall 14, as described in Specification 319,810, [Class 7 (ii), Internalcombustion engines, Arrangement &c. of], in the neighbourhood of the inlet and exhaust valves 30, 31, but the passage 35 leading to the cylinder has flat sides 36 and a flat or slightly curved base 37 ; the minimum extent of the curved wall 14 is indicated by dotted lines 11, 12 ; the roof may also be curved over the valves and flat over the passage 35 and its shape.is such that when a valve is fully open the clearances indicated by arrows in Fig. 1 are all equal. The sides 36 mav be at right-angles to, or converge towards, the base 37 which may be formed as a groove in the cylinder block and slope as described in Specification 326,454, [Class 7 (ii), Internal-combustion engines, Arrangement &c. of] ; the chamber may be partially formed by a gasket placed between the head and block. One side 36 only may be flat, the chamber being formed as described in Specification 329,340, [Class 7 (ii), Internal-combustion engines, Arrangement &c. of] ; the exhaust valve only may be at the side, but the sparking plug is always arranged adjacent the exhaust valve.
