Abstract

1478488 Rotary valves in IC engines BRITISH LEYLAND UK Ltd 15 Jan 1975 [15 Jan 1974] 01899/74 Heading F1B In an I.C. engine, a valve-member 37 with a frusto-conical surface 36 extending from an endface which provides a wall bounding a combustion chamber 40 is rotated so that the end of a duct 42, through the valve-member terminating in the frusto-conical surface is brought successively into communication with inlet and outlet ports 56, 44. The valve-member is rotated by a solenoid (not shown) which acts upon an armature 51. In a multi-cylinder engine, pairs of adjacent cylinders have inlet ports 56, A' supplied from an inlet manifold 58 via a common gallery 57 and pairs of adjacent cylinders have outlet ports 44, B' feeding into an exhaust manifold 55 via a common gallery 54.
