505,328. Discharge lamps. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS'GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. July 7, 1938, No. 20193. Convention date, July 10, 1937. [Class 39 (i)] The wall of a high-pressure metal-vapour discharge tube has contractions opposite the ends of the electrodes for restraining the vaporizable metal from which the electrodes project slightly when the tube is in the horizontal position. In the form shown, the quartz tube 1 has an internal diameter of 2À5 mm. and has contractions 4 facing the ends of the electrodes 2 which project about half a millimetre from the amalgam or mercury 3. The tube is surrounded by a cooling envelope (not shown) through which cooling water is led during operation. The mercury may be heated up for initiating the ignition. Specifications 431,450 and 502,321 are referred to.
