Abstract
504,737. Screw propellers. HEADEN, L. A. Oct. 29, 1937, Nos. 29603 and 34567. [Class 114] For preventing ice formation on an aircraft propeller, hot air or exhaust gases from the engine are led to the propeller boss and thence by external pipes to ducts in or along the leading edge of each blade. A fixed pipe B leading from the engine opens into a casing A secured to the propeller boss and gases passing therethrough proceed by way of a pipe A<4> to a tube or to a space E<2> in the leading edge of the blade E. The space is covered by a sheet metal piece G. In one construction, the outlet at the tip leads by way of a pipe E<5> to a Venturi opening E<3> across the tip. Alternatively, the Venturi opening may be contained in a separate piece fastened to the tip.
