Class 137 In a ships' ventilating system part of the air entering a forwardly situated scoop 1 passes down a pipe 3 to a point low down in a compartment 4 which is tc be ventilated, the rest of the air entering the scoop 1 passing along a pipe 6 tc be discharged through ar aft scoop 2 and create within the latter a partial vacuum thus inducing air to flow up a pipe 5, having an opening high up in the compartment 4, and discharge the vitiated air from the compartment 4 out through the scoop 2. The pipe 6 may serve as a handrail on the deck of a ship.
