Abstract
504,180. Windings for dynamos. CONTINENTAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Sept. 18, 1937, No. 25395. Convention date, Sept. 19, 1936. [Class 35] In a generator having brushes in advance of the neutral position to increase the demagnetizing effect of armature reaction, the leading or trailing pole tips, or both tips, are outwardly tapered to give a non-uniform air gap and the armature winding has interconnected wave and lap turns. The voltage of the machine varies only slightly with changes of speed. In the form shown, the internal-combustion engine driven generator is shunt wound with a series winding for starting as a motor, and with or without an opposing series winding. Both tips of each pole are tapered. The poles are laminated and preferably unsaturated. In Fig. 3, one side of a lap turn of the armature winding is disposed between the of the wave turns d, f and is in a stot also occupied, by sides of other wave turns. In Fig. 8, the armature has a wave winding i and a lap winding j connected to the same segments.
