503,772. Plastic jointing oompositions. MARDLES, E. W. J. Oct. 11, 1937, Nos. 27567/37 and 11230/38. [Class 22] [Also in Groups IV and III] A plastic jointing composition consists of wool fat, or a solution thereof in a solvent, and a synthetic or natural hard resin, which is neutral or of low acidity, and is soluble in hydrocarbons. The final composition contains up to 50 per cent of the rosin calculated on combined resin and wool fat. Up to of the wool fat may be replaced by petroleum jelly. Up to ¢ of the resin may be replaced by beeswax, carnauba wax, or high melting paraffin wax. Resinous materials specified are, coumarone, dammar, ester gum, processed copals, and the resinates of barium, calcium, aluminium, copper, magnesium, or zinc. Pigments, and water repellant substances such as barium or magnesium stearate, triphenyl phosphate may be added. In an example, a plastic composition consists of wool fat, barium resinate, zinc oxide or zinc chrome, and barium stearate. The composition is applied moistened with a solvent such as white spirit, solvent naphtha, or chlorinated hydrocarbons, and is used for filling joints of aeroplane parts before riveting together.
