Abstract

A coating composition includes a filler comprising asbestos fibre and expanded vermiculite, and a vehicle comprising chlorinated rubber, a highly chlorinated paraffin wax, a fire-resistant plasticizer for said chlorinated rubber, a fire-resistant adhesive, a pigment and a volatile aromatic solvent. The plasticizer may be tricresyl phosphate, triphenyl phosphate or cresyl dihenyl phosphate, the adhesive may be a chlorinated terphenyl particularly when dissolved in xylene, toluene or benzene mixed with a chlorinated vegetable oil such as chlorinated oiticica oil, while specified pigments are antimony trioxide, french whiting, titanium oxide, asbestine, chrome yellow and chrome green. Fine wash sand may also be present. The vehicle may comprise approximately three-fourths of the entire composition.
