Abstract

A form of the liquid coating-composition claimed in Claim 9 of the parent Specification contains 25--60 per cent of an aluminium-silicon pigment containing 5--95 per cent of silicon, in such a fine state of division that it will pass through a sieve of 10,000 meshes per sq. cm., together with 25--70 per cent of one or more binding media or vehicles. Up to 10 per cent of diluents, and up to 35 per cent of inert mineral fillers may be added. Binding media specified include linseed oil, wood oil, copals and other natural or artificial resins, and benzine, benzol or turpentine may be used as diluents. Specified fillers are kaolin, china clay, and asbestine. Driers may be added. The addition of alcohol, butanol, hexaline or aniline is stated to prevent thickening. The aluminium-silicon pigment itself is stated to have an anti-corrosive action, though lead chromate may be added for this purpose.
