Abstract

Anti-corrosive paints contain up to 10% by weight CrF3 or CrF3 aq., where aq. is up to 4.5 molecules of water of crystallization. Generally, the paints also comprise 14-35% binder solids, 10-40% pigments and/or fillers, and solvents and driers to complete the balance. The pigment or filler may be ZnO, TiO2, red iron oxide, talcum, bentonite, barite or mica. A preferred anti-corrosion agent is (CrF3)27H2O dehydrated by 20-25%. Suitable binders include polyvinyl, butyral epoxy, alkyd and phenolic resins. Examples 1-4, 6-8 and 11-12 relate to alkyd resin paints, Example 5 to a polyvinyl butyral paint containing CrF3, ethanol, butanol, H3PO4 and acetone, and Example 9 to a phenolic varnish-based paint prepared from t-butylphenol, linseed oil and tung oil in equal parts.ALSO:Anti-corrosive paints contain up to 10% by weight of CrF3 or CrF3 aq., where aq. is up to 4.5 molecules of water of crystallization. Example 10 pertains to a bodied linseed oil-based paint containing CrF3.3H2O, zinc oxide, talcum, rutile, bentonite, mineral spirits and driers.ALSO:Steel panels are coated with an anti-corrosive paint containing up to 10% by weight CrF3 or CrF3 aq. where aq. is up to 4.5 molecules of water of crystallisation (see Division C4-5). The paint may contain alkyd resins, phenolic resins, epoxy resins, chlorinated rubber, polyvinyl polymers, bodied linseed oil, as binders.
