Abstract

Compositions for making products of the linoleum type comprise a mixture of factice with natural or synthetic resin and the usual linoleum filling and colouring materials, the compositions containing at least 15 per cent of factice. The factice used is prepared by the action of sulphur or sulphur chloride on fatty oils such as linseed, castor, rapeseed, or fish oil. A previously prepared mixture of natural or artificial resin and used or regenerated rubber may be included in the compositions, the proportion of rubber being less than that of the factice; linoxyn may also be present. In the examples, (1) factice is mixed with a synthetic resin prepared from naphthalene and sulphur chloride, and the mixture is heated and mixed with wood dust and permanent white ; (2) a heated mixture of factice and colophony is mixed with cork dust and a mineral pigment such as ochre or barytes; (3) factice made from whale oil and sulphur chloride is mixed in turn with colophony, cork dust, and ochre; (4) as in example 3, but with different proportions; (5) a mixture of factice and colophony is mixed with a mixture of colophony and used rubber and then with cork dust and colophony; (6) a mixture of factice and colophony is mixed with a mixture of colophony and waste rubber and then with wood dust and chalk.
