503,457. Vulcanizing endless belts. STEVENS, A. H. (Boston Woven Hose & Rubber Co.) Nov. 29, 1937, No. 19671/38. Divided out of 503,438. [Class 70] In apparatus for vulcanizing endless belts on a heated drum, the bearings at one end of the drum, and tensioning roller, are removable to enable the belt to be slipped on and off. The belt B, Fig. 1, is passed round a heated drum 10, against which it is pressed by a tension band 27, and a roller 15 on an adjustable carriage 16. To enable the belt B to be placed round the drum, the bearing 102 can be retracted and swung clear. The bearing 102 is mounted on a frame 103, Fig. 5, pivoted at 104, and provided with a counterweight 106. Operation of a screw 107 by a hand-wheel 108 draws the bearing from the drum 10, when it can be swung clear of the drum. Additional support is given to the bearing by a perforated arm 110 engaging a stud 111 on the frame of the machine. A similar arrangement is provided for the bearing 112 of the roller 15. For short belts, a roller 122 of such diameter that it can pass between the fixed tension rolls 28, 29, is mounted forwardly of the roller 15.
