Abstract

501,953. Shearing; forging. NATIONAL MACHINERY CO. March 31, 1938, No. 9865. Convention date, March 31,1937. [Class 83 (iv)] In a machine for severing wire to be cold headed &c. a shear blade is moved at an angle to the plane normal to the stock. The wire is fed along an axis 70 by known means and is sheared by a blade 81 reciprocated over a die 71 by a lever 21 pivoted on a pin 22 and moved by a cam 25 from an eccentric 50. The face of the die 71 is inclined at an angle of about 88¢‹ to the axis 70. The shear blade 81 is mounted on a holder guided on pins 91 and is given a small movement towards the die face by the offset position of its mounting pin 28. The wire is fed through the blade 81 and is slightly bent by the end of the wire engaging the blade. The latter may be in two portions with one part spring- pressed to hold the stock. The blank after shearing is lifted by the blade to the axis 72 and is then ejected by a rod 94. Specification 426,845 is referred to.
