Abstract

501,499. Maintaining oil level in oil &c. vessels. BOSCH GES., R. July 12, 1938, No. 20579. Convention date, July 22, 1937. [Class 12 (iii)] [Also in Group XVIII] The oil level 9 in a vessel 3 is maintained constant by supplying additional oil through pipes 33, 34, to make up for that consumed. A rotary pump 28 has a suction 29 located near the desired oil.level and the delivery from a pipe 30 acts on a valve 31 and passes through a throttle 32 and is returned through 34 to the vessel 3. So long as the suction 29 is below the oil level 9 the valve 31 closes the pipe. If, however, the suction 29 is above the oil level the pump delivery pressure falls and the valve 31 opens to permit oil to flow through the pipes 33, 34, to the vessel 9. The invention is shown applied to an oil vessel 3 associated with an injection pump 1 of an internal-combustion engine. The vessel 3 contains an aneroid capsule 12 and a servomotor 15. These parts are of approximately the same size and are symmetrically disposed in the container with reference to the centre of gravity 38 thereof. A second pump 20 has its suction 21 arranged adjacent the centre of gravity 38 and the delivery is led by pipe 35 to the cam shaft 22, by a pipe to a duct 17 to the servomotor, and by a pipe 36 to the oil chambers around the injection pump plunger. The upper extension 37 of the vessel 3 is about the same size as the lower extension housing a diaphragm 5 acted upon by the vacuum in the engine injection pump. Thus in whatever position the vessel 3 is placed the suction pipe 21 is always below the liquid level. In a modification the suction pipe 29 of the pump 29 has branches opening into different parts of the vessel 3.
