Abstract

500,966. Valves. BROWN, F. V., and AIRCRAFTINGS, Ltd. Aug. 18, 1937, No. 22666. [Class 135] A valve device particularly for jettisoning liquid fuel or ballast from aircraft tanks comprises a hinged valve disc 10 closing a discharge spout 1 of a tank 6. The disc is pivoted to lugs 20 on a flanged ring 3 by a pin 19 engaging in a bushed hole in the end of a slotted cam track member 15 secured to the top of the disc. An arm 31 secured to an operating spindle 28 with a handle 36 carries a rotter 35 which engages in the cam slot which is' slightly inclined with respect to the plane of the disc so that swinging movement of the arm 31 tightens or loosens the valve disc on its seat. The valve disc is raised from its seat by the extreme movement of the arm 31 when the roller 35 engages the end of the cam slot to pivot the disc about the pin 19. The member 15 is S-shaped to conform to the arc traced out by the roller 35 and to allow the roller 35 to be moved beyond the normal closed position out of the cam slot to provide for assembly and dismantling.
