Abstract

445,818. Tanks. PERNIKA, H., Langenlois, Lower Austria. July 2, 1935, No. 18913. [Class 69 (i)] A device for the withdrawal of liquids to selected levels from containers comprises more than two coaxial tubes, the outermost extending beyond the others, and each of the inner tubes has a flange engaging a packing element. In the form shown in Fig. 1, tubes 7, 17 arranged in an outer tube 4 have flanges 8 in contact with packing 9, and the tubes 7, 17 are turned to bring apertures at different levels into or out of register by means of pins 10, 21. A main shut-off slide valve 24, and a filter 27 are provided. In a modification, the main shut-off valve is rotary, and its operating member is extended so that it can return the pins to their initial positions when the valve is closed. In another form, the operating member 41, Figs. 3 and 4, of the cock 40 has an eye 43 through which an arm 44 can slide, the arm being ball-jointed at 46 to the pin 48 projecting from the inner tube 17. The cock is opened, the rod 44 moved axially to turn the tube 17 to bring apertures 6, 12, 12a into register, and finally the tube 7 is turned by the pin 50 to open apertures at 6a. When the member 41 is subsequently operated to close the cock, a pin 49 returns the pin 50 to its initial position, where it may be held by engaging a spring catch 51 with a pin 52.
