Abstract
500,575. Water - glass cements. ROSENTHAL, E. Aug. 12, 1937, No. 22220. [Class 70] A cement for repairing ceramic objects consists of water-glass and a low melting- point frit which has adhesive properties when cold, and forms a glaze when fired. A suitable composition is 120 parts of water - glass (Na2O.2SiO2), 30 parts of sand, 116 parts of red lead, and 70 parts of boracic acid. The sand, red lead, and boracic acid are first fritted, and the water-glass is' then added. A glaze having the formula 0À1 Na2O, 0À2 MgO, 0À7 CaO, 1À0 Al2O3' 10 SiO2' may be modified by replacing the Na2O, MgO, CaO, and part of the SiO2 by water-glass. The cement is applied cold, and after it has hardened, the object is fired at a glazing temperature.
