Abstract
1370761 Glazing ceramics CHAMPION SPARK PLUG CO 16 Jan 1973 [8 Feb 1972] 2303/73 Heading C1M [Also in Division F1] The glaze on the ceramic insulator of a sparking plug, (see Division F1), is initially applied as a liquid glaze slip and then fired, and its composition lies within one of the following ranges expressed in overall total percentages by weight: Range 1 1-5 K2O, Na2O and/or Li2O; 2-7 CaO and/or MgO; 10-20 Al2O3; 70-80 SiO2. Range 2 1-5 K2O, Na2O and/or Li2O; 20-30 CaO and/or MgO; 40-50 Al2O3; 20-30 SiO2. Range 3 1-5 K2O, Na2O and/or Li2O; 2-7 CaO and/or MgO; 15-20 B2O3; 1-5 PbO; 5-15 Al2O3; 60-70 SiO2. Range 4 1-5 K2Na2O and/or Li2O; 30-40 Al2O3; 55-65 SiO2. The thickness of the glaze is greater than 0À0005 inch, and preferably between 0À001 and 0À0025 inch. In a specific example, a glaze slip having a composition of 1À29 K2O, 0À7 Na2O, 4À22 CaO, 0À03 MgO, 14À96 Al2O3, and 78À72 SiO2 was applied to a ceramic insulator and fired for ten minutes at 2700‹ F. It had a coefficient of thermal expansion of 2.87 x 10<-6> in./in./‹ C.
