Abstract
459,065. Glass manufacture. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and PARTRIDGE, J. H., c/o General Electric Co., Ltd., Wembley, Middlesex. Nov. 25, 1935, No. 32651. [Class 56] A glass with a high softening temperature, high electric resistance, and an expansion coefficient between 5 x 10<-6> and 3 x 10<-6> per degree Centigrade, contains not more than 55 per cent of silica, not less than 20 per cent of alumina, not more than 12 per cent of lime, and some zinc oxide, the total of lime and zinc oxide together being not less than 13À5 per cent. Alkali, if used, must not exceed 2 per cent, and boric oxide mav be used as a flux. Some of the alumina may be replaced by magnesium oxide, and up to 5 per cent of barium oxide may be used. Phosphorus pentoxide may also be present. Examples of a number of compositions are given in the Specification. Specification 426,129 is referred to.
