497,548. Magnets. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 5, 1938, No. 13468. Convention date, May 5, 1937. [Class 35] [Also in Group XXII] A permanent magnet assembly, more especially a meter brake, comprises a bar magnet 1 of high coercive force, and an iron yoke 5 held together by means of metal die-cast under high pressure into co-operating cavities in the magnet and yoke, a piece of ferrous metal having proj ecting edges or recesses, e.g. a screw 7, being firmly secured to the yoke at one end and anchored at its other end in a filled cavity 2 in the magnet. The screw 7 may be wholly or partly of material of permeability varying with temperature to compensate for temperature errors in the instrument or a sleeve of such material may surround the screw. An adjustable ferromagnetic part such as a screw 8 may be provided to vary the strength of the magnet. The diecast material is introduced through a hole 6 in the yoke through which also temperature compensating devices may be introduced.
