497,399. Wheel tyres. MONNING- HOFF, E. June 17, 1937, No. 16858. Convention date, June 18, 1936. [Class 144 (ii)] Non-skid chains are fitted to wheel tyres by attachment to hooks provided on discs or rings which are mounted, rotatably or otherwise, on the brake-drum, the axle cap, or other portion of the wheel adjacent the axle. As shown in Fig. 1, the attachment means comprises a disc 2 secured to the wheel by bolts 4, and a split ring 5 clamped, or rotatably secured, to the brake-drum 5 by a bolt 7, the disc and ring being fitted with hooks 3 for the reception of the chains. In a modification, the hooks on the outer side of the wheel are carried by a ring rotatably mounted on the disc 2. Figs. 5 and 6 show a modification in which the chains 18 on the inner side of the wheel are fitted with ball-ended hooks 19 for assemblage in a slotted flange 15 on the wheel-rim, the disc 2 carrying the hooks 3 on the outer side of the wheel being mounted on a flanged ring 11 secured to the wheel-centre. In the modification shown in Fig. 8, the flange 15 at the inner side of the wheel is formed on a separately-attached disc 21 to which a hooked ring 22 is fitted. At the outer side of the wheel, the hooks 3 are formed on springs 20 fitted over pins 19 projecting from a ring 18 which is fitted over the axle-cap 12.
