Abstract

497,094. Ventilators. FORD, E. L., and AIRVAC, Ltd. June 15, 1937, No. 16582. [Class 137] An extractor ventilator which is applied to the sides of a vehicle, and is effective in either direction of travel, comprises a base plate 1 having an aperture 2 with an outwardly curved lip 3, a shallow cover plate 4 being arranged over the aperture, and secured to the base plate by top and bottom plates 5, 6. Opposite the open ends of the box like structure are deflector plates 11 and spaced U- shaped deflectors 12, 13. The bottom plate 6 is stepped down at each end and provided with apertures having above them angularly disposed deflector vanes 10<x> which direct any incoming air or water away from the central aperture 2. Deflecting surfaces additional to the end deflector plates are provided not only by the parts of the strips 12, 13 extending beyond the width of the extraction passages at its top side, but also by the inner side of the stepped down portions 9.
