Abstract

496,841. Two-part couplings. BYRNE, E. L. W. (Titeflex Metal Hose Co.) Nov. 30, 1937, No. 33118. [Class 38 (i)] A shielded connector for coupling an ignition lead to a sparking-plug comprises a body 13<1> of insulation moulded into a metal casing 9 with a branch 12, and having a central passage that may have a metal tube 14 moulded in it, the tube 14 terminating in brazed-on enlargements 15, 18. A hollow 19 in the body 13<1> receives the ignition lead 19<1> from which the conductor 20 is threaded through the passage or tube 14 and clamped by a screw 16. The enlargement 15 is furnished with a helical spring 8<1> that contacts with the terminal 8 of the plug 1. The connector is secured to the end of a slotted sleeve 7 by a screw ring 29. The part 12 of the metal casing is made of material of low heat-conductivity such as stainless steel or chromium. A rubber ring 28 compressed about the lead 19<1> by a screw-cap 26 seals the connector, and continuity of the casing 9 and the conductor sheathing is ensured by a coned metal insert 27.
