Abstract
495,916. Thermionic cathodes. ZEISS IKON AKT.-GES. Dec. 9, 1937, No. 34133. Convention date, Dec. 22, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] Two or more positively biassed electrodes, arranged in front of a heated cavity containing emissive material, prevent the emission of positive ions. A caesium compound embedded in or covered by alkaline-earth oxide may be the emitting material, or the floor of the cavity may be covered with emissive material and the walls with aluminium oxide. The positively biassed electrodes may be grids, or, as shown, emissive material 8 may be deposited on the bases of increasingly positive electrodes 5, 6, 7, the sides of which are lined with an oxide 10. Ceramic spacers 11 are provided. The positively biassed electrodes may serve as lenses or as secondary cathodes. The invention is applicable to Braun tubes.
