Abstract
494,804. Metal sheathed cables. METALLURGIE DU NICKEL. Jan. 28, 1938, No. 2838. Convention date, Dec. 10, 1937. [Class 36] [Also in Group XI] The metal sheath 1 is provided with a longitudinal slot 2 through which the conductor 3 and then powdered insulation are introduced, the latter being compressed during filling, after which the lips of the slot are closed by passing the sheath through a draw-plate. The lips of the slot are then welded and the diameter of the sheath is reduced by one or more operations. The conductor is supported at one end by a plug 5 and at the other end by deformation of the sheath. Compression of the insulation is effected by a piston 8 actuated manually or mechanically. A movable sheath 10 protects the compressed portion.
